Wilson is a borough in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. It is part of Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley region, and is adjacent to Easton, the smallest and easternmost of the Lehigh Valley's three cities.



The population was 7,682 at the 2000 census.


As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 7,682 people, 3,164 households, and 1,949 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,392.0/km² (6,185.9/mi²). There were 3,345 housing units at an average density of 1,041.5/km² (2,693.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 93.87% White, 1.84% African American, 0.07% Native American, 1.56% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.11% from other races, and 1.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.05% of the population.

There were 3,164 households out of which 30.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 12.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.4% were non-families. 31.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 3.05.

In the borough the population was spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 91.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.0 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $37,400, and the median income for a family was $44,707. Males had a median income of $35,870 versus $26,738 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $18,625. About 4.5% of families and 5.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.8% of those under age 18 and 9.8% of those age 65 or over.
